Why Hawaii?

The native bird species in Hawaii are in need of help now more than ever. Only 42 native endemic bird species remain in Hawaii, and 32 are federally listed under the Endangered Species Act. While conservation groups are doing all they can to ensure survival of these species, there is much more to be done.

Check out these American Bird Conservancy links that better depict the situation in Hawaii:

Endangered Hawaii

The video on this page better explains the need for increased conservation in Hawaii.

The good news is that it isn't too late for many of these species. I'm taking the fun "pledge-per-species" approach to my photographic big year to keep me motivated. I hope some of you will join me!
